Glendale, California is home to over 197,000 people, and is located in Los Angeles County. This is a beautiful city, partially due to the variety of artwork located in the city. Murals, sculptures, and statues are scattered thoughout the city, including abstract art, a passageway between streets designed in a "Chessboard" theme, murals of beautiful landscapes, and much more. There is also a small mountain range, the Verdugo Mountains, that bisects the city. Verdugo Peak is the highest peak in these mountains, and reaches a height of about 3,120 feet (located near the northern end of the mountain range). The mountains have a variety of short, yet difficult hiking trails, as well as mountain biking trails.

In addition to having a variety of beautiful trails and artwork, Glendale is also home to many businesses. In 1945, the Baskin-Robbins chain of ice cream parlors was started in Adams Square. The Bob's Big Boy hamburger restaurant chain was also started in Glendale in August of 1936.
In 1923, municipal airport Grand Central Airport was developed, and for many years was the largest employer in Glendale. This facility was very important in the development of aviation in America. It was the first official terminal for the area of Los Angeles, and Charles Lindbergh's transcontinental flight (the first commercial west to east transcontinental fight) departed from this airport. However, in 1959, the Grand Central Airport was closed and replaced by the Grand Central Business Park.
Glendale is also home to the offices of many large companies. The American headquarters for the International House of Pancakes, as well as that of Nestle are location in Glendale. In 2006, Americas United Bank was formed in Glendale, and also has their headquarters located in the city. Neopets Inc., creator of the popular virtual pet website, is also located in the city of Glendale.
